James B. “Jim” Plair, Sr., Author, graduated from The Citadel in 1950 in Civil Engineering. He also was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Corps of Engineers, and Active Army Reserve. Jim served on Active Duty in Korea (1951-1952), Ft. Belvoir, VA, and completed 20 years in the Active Reserves, retiring in 1985 as a Lt. Col. His civilian career was mainly with AXA Equitable, as a Representative, retiring in 1989 to Brevard, NC with his wife, Sally. They have three children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. A Rotarian for over 50 years, he is a Life Member The Citadel Alumni Association, Equitable Hall of Fame, and a Founding Member of the Brevard Authors Guild.
Jim has been a self-taught student of the Constitution for over forty years. His interest In the Revolutionary War period began when he and his wife returned to the United States after three years of living in Turkey and Japan. He realized what a wonderful country we live in. This entailed his not just reading the Declaration of Independence and Constitution but reading such materials as the Federalists Papers, writings and articles of the founding fathers, and many biographies of those Patriots who devoted their lives and fortunes to guarantee our freedoms with a Republican form of government.
